History of the Venue

After opening in 1931, the building has been known over the years as the Exhibition Forum, Vancouver Forum and PNE Forum. It played a key role in Vancouver’s sports history and served as the city’s premier indoor arena for a number of years after the Denman Arena fire in 1936.

The Forum was home to professional ice hockey teams, including the Vancouver Canucks of the Pacific Coast Hockey League and Western Hockey League from 1945 to 1968. The venue also hosted box lacrosse, figure skating competitions, Ice Capades and Ice Follies as well as boxing events during the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

In the early 1980s, the building was refurbished and transformed from an ice arena into an exhibition and concert space.
